Dara & her pups

On May 21st, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call that a stray mama husky was just giving birth to puppies at a residence east of Redby. At that time she had given bith to four pups. The Red Lake Rosie Rescue van arrived the next morning and we found a litter of 9 born behind a screen door propped up against the wall of the house. One was deceased and the other tiny babies were taken into a crate and the mama, we called Dara, went in eagerly with some food.

Dara was a young girl, perhaps 9 months old, and no doubt this was her first (and last) litter. She was in poor condition suffering malnourishment, dehydration, and was infested with ticks. We treated the ticks right away and got her loaded with her pups and they were off to the shelter.

Once tucked in her kennel, she proved to be a great mother dedicated to feeding her pups. It did not take long for the good donated food we get to make her bags fill up with milk. We noticed one of the babies was missing a foot, apparently the inexperienced mama had bitten off the foot while she was biting off the umbelical cord during delivery.

Thankfully, she only had to spend 4 days at the shelter and then was off to St. Francis of Assissi Animal Rescue to a foster home. She was transported by the O'Sullivan's, Barbie, and Dee Dee on to her new home on May 26th.

Thank you all for helping get Dara and her family on to a life where she will not have to suffer, and have more litters that would have been homeless. A special thanks to SFAAR for taking Dara and giving her a chance.

Sincerely, Karen RLRR

Dara was such a little doll on the
transport.....sweet and brave to
have had so much thrown at her in
her young life. She has a bright
future waiting for her now, along with her cutie pups. Thanks for this great rescue and foster care!

Having read this I thought it was extremely enlightening. I appreciate you spending some time and effort to put this information together. I once again find myself personally spending a significant amount of time both reading and commenting. But so what, it was still worthwhile!
